Student Profile 

River City Christian School specializes in educating students with learning differences which include:

  • Problems with reading, reading comprehension and/or math.
  • A sudden decline in grades or attendance.
  • A history of poor organizational and study skills.
  • Lack of motivation.
  • developmental brain disorder that targets motor skills and affects a person's ability to write.

THE PROGRAM AT RCCS IS APPROPRIATE FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH DISORDERS AND DISABILITIES SUCH AS:  (*See Exceptions) 

  • Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
    • ADD and ADHD commonly display characteristics of distractibility and impulsivity that impact time on task, attention to relevant detail, and memory or retention.
  • Learning Disabilities
    • Display a variety of difficulties evidenced in the learning process, many of them due to developmental lags.
  • Dyslexia
    • Displays the inability to distinguish individual letters within a word and the impaired ability to read or understand what is read.
  • Dysgraphia
    • Developmental disorder that affects the ability to write.
  • Dyscalculia
    • Learning disability affecting mathematic operations.
  • Central Auditory Processing Disorder
    • Displays difficulty listening to or comprehending auditory information; reduced or impaired ability to discriminate, recognize, or comprehend auditory information.
  • Asperger's Disorder
    • High functioning with average or above average intelligence; is verbal; lacks some social skills - lacks ability to understand social cues; difficulty making friends at school.
    • *(Students who are considered must have no problems with language; no dramatic behavior; no stemming, flapping hands, or rocking).
  • Tic Disorders such as Tourette's Syndrome
    • Displays simple motor tics. 
    • *(Students who are considered must have no dramatic or disabling tics ;  no swear words or word repetition i.e. coprolalia or echolalia; no motor tics that result in self-harm). 

RCCS IS NOT SUCCESSFUL IN EDUCATING STUDENTS WHO HAVE THE FOLLOWING EMOTIONAL, COGNITIVE AND MEDICAL  ISSUES OR DIAGNOSIS

  • Mood Disorders - Bipolar Disorder I or II, Unipolar Disorder, Dysthymia, Major Depression - recurrent episodes
  • Cylothymic Disorder
  • Emotional Disturbance (ED)
  • Psychotic Disorders (Schizophrenia, Delusional Disorder)
  • Personality Disorders - Borderline Personality Disorder, Antisocial Personality Disorder, Paranoid Personality Disorder
  • Conduct Disorder (CD)
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
  • History of Aggression
  • Have been placed on Lithium medication
  • Severe Cognitive Disabilities
  • Autism - with behavior issues such as aggression, or stemming, flapping hands, rocking, and/or IQ below 75
  • Mental Retardation  (IQ below 75)
  • More than two grade levels behind their age-appropriate grade
  • Serious visual or hearing impairment
  • Unable to care for themselves
  • Immobile students and those who need assistance climbing stairs
  • Have chronic suicidal ideation, or who self-mutilate
  • History of Drug/Nicotine/Alcohol Abuse
  • Involved in chemical abuse or who are, or were, in a chemical abuse program
  • Have engaged in threats to harm or kill a teacher or another student
  • Have been placed in alternative school, juvenile detention, or who have been expelled from school, or convicted of a crime
  • Have been involved in the occult
